About Our Lady & St. John
Our Lady and St. John is a Roman Catholic church whose mission has a special emphasis on evangelization. We are part of a special non-geographical diocese (the “Ordinariate”) spanning the USA and Canada which was created by Pope Benedict XVI to preserve elements of the Anglican/Episcopalian tradition within the Catholic Church. With respect and gratitude for the Anglican heritage that nourished us, we seek to build bridges with all our brothers and sisters who are drawn to the Church, so that we might build up the one Body of Christ.
Our mission is particularly manifested in our celebration of the liturgy, which features Anglican traditions of worship while conforming to Catholic doctrinal, sacramental, and liturgical standards. Through Divine Worship, our special form of the Catholic Mass, we share our distinctive commitment to praising God in the eloquence of the Anglican liturgical patrimony and Prayer Book English.
In addition, the founding documents of the Ordinariate make clear that it is intended to be an instrument of Catholic unity: an opportunity to model what the future reconciliation of separated Christian communities could be. We wish to fulfill the Holy Father’s vision for Christian unity, in which diverse expressions of one faith are joined together in the Church without losing their distinctiveness.
The Ordinariate exists for those who are and who will be coming into full communion with the Catholic Church. Through the reverence and beauty of our worship, study of sacred Scripture and charity for those in need, we desire to share the joy of being Catholic and to follow the call of Our Lord in John 17, “that we all may be one.”
Parish History
We began in Lent of 2016 as a community of Christians gathering at for prayer, friendship, and discernment at the home of Fr. Erdman, who was at that time an Episcopal priest. This diverse group included lifelong Episcopalians, Baptists, Lutherans, and Presbyterians.
After much discernment, our founding members were received into the full communion of the Catholic Church later that year. After further Catholic seminary formation, Fr. Erdman was ordained a Catholic priest in 2017, and we began Masses on Sunday afternoons at St. Martin of Tours. In 2023, we entered into a partnership to share a campus with St. Francis of Assisi (SFA) Catholic Church on Bardstown Road, coinciding with Fr. Erdman’s appointment as pastor of SFA.
Today, we are a thriving church with a full schedule of liturgies, beautiful sacred music, and a full Christian education program for adults and children. We invite you to join our story!
